How we compared these IDP tools
IDP software captures, classifies, extracts and validates data from business documents and passes it on to the systems that use it. We compared five platforms on six criteria, using public vendor documentation as of November 2026.
What to look for in IDP software in 2026
Extraction and classification accuracy, and how to compare it fairly
Accuracy is the first number every vendor shows, and the hardest one to compare. Vendors measure it differently: per field or per document, on clean PDFs or on real-world scans, before or after human review.

The fair way to compare is to test every shortlisted tool with the same set of your own documents, including the difficult ones: poor scans, handwritten notes, long line-item tables. Measure these separately:

- Classification accuracy when invoices, order confirmations and delivery notes arrive in the same inbox
- Touchless rate: the share of documents that pass without any manual correction
- Correction effort: how long a reviewer needs for the rest

Good IDP does not remove people from the process. It sends them only what is uncertain. Check which fields get flagged, whether reviewers see the document and the ERP data side by side, and whether their corrections improve future results.
Also check how much control you keep over automated steps, for example which actions need an approval before they reach your ERP.
ERP integration: what happens after extraction
For ERP teams, this is where IDP tools differ most. Extracted data still has to be checked against supplier master data, matched with purchase orders, coded to the right GL accounts, approved and posted.
Ask each vendor how its data reaches your ERP:
- Native integration: built and maintained by the vendor for your specific ERP
- Pre-built connector: a standard interface, often for SAP; check the supported versions
- API or RPA: flexible, but your team or a partner builds and maintains the process logic
If you are migrating to SAP S/4HANA, check that the tool supports your target system, not only your current one.
High-volume processing and scalability
Volume peaks at month-end, new entities and new suppliers test an IDP platform more than a demo does. Check how the tool handles e-invoice formats such as PEPPOL, XRechnung and ZUGFeRD, which can be processed as structured data instead of being read like scans. Security and compliance
